The Derek Lam Diaries...

A view of front of house at Derek Lam, the calm before the storm...

Backstage is this way...

Ummm...firstly, can you say 'Crowded'? Because that is an understatement to describe the backstage area at Capitale for Derek Lam's fall/winter 2010 show:

So many makeup artists and no space to put us all...Thank goodness were used to this. It's encountered often and were all friends; we make it work...

More importantly however, lets say Tom Pechaux, my favorite person to spend Fashion Week with and both he and Derek always makes it worthwhile whatever the backstage conditions may be. For Derek's show, he designed a navy smokey eye paired with matte copper lips. The tiniest hint of gloss on the lid would be added as the girls were in lineup. So, to sum it up: Yum, yum and more yum: Swag bags filled to the brim with products at the stations, PB&J sandwiches in catering, amazing clothes and gorgeous models...not a bad way to start off an early morning, my dearies...

Yay for breakfast!!! At 6am start time, there's never time to down anything before you arrive at work. You just grab your kit and go; a proper breakfast somehow gets lost in that translation PS: (I love a mini PB&J any day of the week...)

The show was awesome. Personally, alot of the pieces that he showed play to my own style aesthetic and the shoes, coats and various leather pieces were absolutely to DIE for. Derek's cool quotient also went up exponentially as the girls walked to a soundtrack of Buffalo Gals mixed with the instrumental break of West Street Mob's Break Dance. Now, that's what I'm talking about first thing in the morning!!!! And, on the way out, he even helped me repack my swag bag as I was one of the last makeup artists to leave the venue; what a super cool, humble & gracious guy. (Honestly though, I wasn't expecting any less...) Below, are various backstage snapshots...

I told you that those leather pieces were to die for...the accessories in this collection were just a big ball of all over urban city chic buttery soft loveliness...
