Vena Cava: New York Fashion Week S/S 2010 Part I

The girls of Vena Cava were inspired by the bright murals of the South African Ndebele Tribe for their Spring/ Summer 2010 collection...

Lloyd Simmons translated this inspiration and designed the makeup look for the show featuring neutral matte eyes, matte skin, no blush and a bold dusty violet matte mouth. Brows are kept natural with a bit of grooming gel. Dare I make the prediction that matte is back???  Lloyd did the makeup test on Sophie (above), a friend of the designers....

On the Day of the Show:

Butter London did the nails...

....& whipped up this custom shade of matte cobalt blue seen above & below:

"Done, undone hair..."
Ted Gibson keyed the hair team and pulled the hair straight back tight away from the face, low on the nape & formed an intentionally messy, but neat bun.

The 'Brooke Shields' brow and a detail close-up of the eye

To note: Most of the models would be wearing vintage black sunglasses throughout the presentation so the actual eye makeup look was for the benefit of backstage picture op benefits. This was also another reason why the brows were brushed straight up as they would peek out on top of the frame of the sunglasses. In addition to the sunglasses, some of the girls would also be wearing big black visors, hence Ted Gibson's hair design took that into account....
